About the Role
Plenful is hiring a Product Engineer to build at the intersection of the Plenful platform and the healthcare systems our customers rely on. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing and building integrations that connect Plenful to external systems like EMRs, payors, and other critical healthcare infrastructure.
You'll sit between platform engineering and customer-facing teams, owning the technical execution of how Plenful talks to external systems. You'll work with APIs, EDI interfaces, and healthcare data standards to enable seamless data exchange and power real-world decisions.
You'll partner closely with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to turn ambiguous requirements into scalable solutions, and help shape how Plenful expands its integration capabilities over time. This role reports to our Head of Product Engineering and has real room to grow as we scale our platform and deepen our footprint across healthcare ecosystems. This role is hybrid.
What You’ll Do
Build integrations across healthcare systems — Design, build, and maintain integrations between Plenful and external systems like EMRs (Epic, Cerner, Athena), payors, wholesalers, and other healthcare platforms. Develop and maintain REST API integrations and data pipelines. Work with healthcare data formats including EDI X12 and FHIR. Build and manage interfaces for claims, payor/PBM systems, and other transaction-based workflows.
Own data flow and decisioning — Pull, transform, and process data from multiple external systems. Enable downstream decision-making and automation based on integrated data. Keep data pipelines reliable, accurate, and scalable.
Bridge product and engineering — Translate product requirements and customer needs into technical implementations. Partner with platform engineering to define and build reusable integration capabilities. Weigh in on system design decisions around APIs, data models, and integration architecture. Build prototypes that remove ambiguity and give the team clarity on requirements.
Partner with customer-facing teams — Work with technical customer success and product teams to implement and iterate on integrations. Troubleshoot and improve live integrations in customer environments. Fold real-world feedback back into the product.
You May Be a Fit If
You've spent 3–6 years in a software engineering or integration-focused role.
You've built integrations between systems, ideally in healthcare or another complex data environment.
You've worked with external APIs and/or data exchange systems.
You're strong in Python (or a similar language).
You've worked with REST APIs and distributed systems.
You're comfortable translating data between formats like JSON, XML, and CSV.
You navigate ambiguous requirements well, and can bridge product thinking with technical execution.
You work well across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
You're detail-oriented, with a focus on reliable, scalable systems.
You're excited to work in a fast-paced, early-stage environment and want to solve real healthcare interoperability problems.
Bonus points for experience with EDI/X12 transactions, AS2 or similar secure data transport protocols, claims workflows, payor/PBM systems, HL7 or FHIR, interface engines or integration platforms, and a BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
