Director, Portfolio Management & Client Reporting Technology Operations

Job Description

What will you do?

This role balances operational leadership and strategic oversight across three core areas:

Operational Excellence (SRE)

  • Oversee Incident/Problem/Change Management and Disaster Recovery exercises to maintain service level objectives for portfolio management and client-facing applications
  • Drive production monitoring capabilities including observability, alerting, and proactive testing across the application portfolio
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives—analyzing incidents and implementing preventive measures
  • Ensure systems maintain technology currency and compliance with RBC security and regulatory standards
  • Identify efficiency opportunities and streamline operating processes
  • Support production readiness during software development projects

Intelligent Operations

  • Guide the SRE technology roadmap for portfolio and reporting applications (monitoring, alerting, anomaly detection tools)
  • Evaluate and implement industry-leading technical solutions tailored to wealth management requirements
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with Portfolio Management, Reporting, and Surveillance teams to develop integrated solutions
  • Support team adoption of new technologies and methodologies
  • Optimize processes and tools to improve agility and cost management

People Leadership

  • Build and develop a high-performing team with focus on growth and engagement
  • Set clear performance goals and support career development
  • Attract and retain skilled engineering and operations talent with expertise in financial systems
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 8+ years' experience in production operations across multiple technologies and platforms
  • 5+ years of related experience in Software Engineering (SRE, DevOps, Cloud)
  • 5+ years of people management experience leading teams of managers, engineers, and operations analysts
  • Proven ability to drive improvements in a complex organization
  • Strong knowledge of SRE and engineering best practices; technical degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience supporting financial services applications or wealth management technology preferred

Nice-to-have

  • Familiarity with Charles River, Envestnet, or similar portfolio management systems
  • Experience with financial data compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning technologies
