This role provides technical leadership across routing, switching, WAN and cloud networking, firewalls, VPN, and load balancers while ensuring all designs align with enterprise architecture standards and modernization goals. Working closely with Network Engineering, Security, Cloud Architecture, and other stakeholders, the Network Architect evaluates technologies, identifies risks and trade offs, and develops clear architectural documentation to enable reliable, high performing, and compliant network services in support of OMES and IT Enterprise Governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Network Engineering, Security, Cloud Architecture, Infrastructure teams, and cross functional stakeholders to guide network solution design and technology selection throughout the lifecycle.
  • Ensure network designs comply with enterprise guardrails, security controls, segmentation policies, and architectural governance requirements.
  • Identify architectural risks, constraints, and trade offs early in discovery and design; present options, impacts, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
  • Conduct technical analyses, feasibility assessments, and conceptual designs to support network modernization, cloud adoption, and interagency connectivity initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain clear, accurate network architecture documentation, including topology diagrams, boundary definitions, connectivity models, and standards.
  • Collaborate with Security teams to define firewall policies, secure access patterns, VPN standards, and network boundary protections.
  • Support WAN and cloud networking patterns, including SD WAN, private circuits, hybrid connectivity, load balancing, and edge security design.
  • Review network configurations, design changes, and proposed technologies for alignment with enterprise architecture and compliance requirements.
  • Provide architectural guidance during incident response, capacity planning, performance optimization, and major network transformation efforts.
  • Continuously research emerging network technologies, industry trends, and architectural methods to strengthen enterprise network capabilities and governance maturity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support OMES, partner agencies, and the mission of IT Enterprise Governance.
