At Coram AI, we’re reimagining video security for the modern world. Our cloud-native platform uses computer vision and AI to help businesses stay safe, make smarter decisions, and move faster; from real-time alerts to seamless clip sharing and multi-site visibility.
You’ll be joining an ambitious, fast-moving team that values clarity, craftsmanship, and impact. Every person here has a voice, ships meaningful work, and helps shape how AI can make the world safer and more connected.
The Role
The Controller owns the entire accounting function and is the second finance leader, working directly alongside the Head of Finance.
You will own the books across all entities (US, UK, India), the month-end close and consolidations, technical accounting (606, 842, 718), revenue, COGS and inventory, and internal controls, and you will run and complete our external audit. You will manage the tax, statutory, and specialist work, and you will manage and grow the accounting team.
To start, this is a player-coach seat. It is you and one accountant, so you run and review the close yourself and own the technical work directly, then hire and build the team over the next 12 to 18 months. You need to be as comfortable in the details as you are leading.
Just as important, you will help build an AI-first accounting function. We already run much of the transactional layer on automation, and we want a Controller who treats that as core to the job, not a side project. This is a rare seat for a strong technical accountant who wants to build the accounting org of the future on a small, senior, high-leverage team, with room to grow in scope as we scale through a Series C to $50M+ ARR.
Skills and qualifications:
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, or an Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller ready to step up into a full controllership. We are betting on slope, not just tenure
Non-negotiable: you have independently owned a month-end close, handled real revenue recognition (ASC 606), and been through an audit. This seat cannot be someone's first time doing any of the three
Hardware experience required. You have done the accounting for a company that ships physical product, so inventory, COGS, and hardware revenue and bundling are familiar ground, not a learning curve
A strong technical accountant: hands-on with US GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606) and consolidations, ideally also leases (842), stock-based comp (718), and capitalized software
CPA preferred, but not required. What is not optional is technical depth and audit experience
Audit experience, internal or external. You know what a clean audit actually takes
Experience owning or heavily contributing to a multi-entity month-end close and consolidations
Has been part of selecting and implementing an ERP. We will graduate off QuickBooks as we scale, and having done that before is a real plus
Has built and managed a team, and raised the bar on the people around them
AI-forward and genuinely AI-pilled: already using automation and AI in accounting, with a point of view on how a modern accounting org should be built
Multi-entity or international experience (UK/India), and a high-growth startup background
What you Bring
High-slope. You have grown into bigger scope faster than your peers and you are ready for the next step, not coasting in the current one.
Strong technical accountant. You are the person others bring the hard 606 or 842 question to, and you get it right and can defend it in an audit.
AI-forward. You already automate what you can, and you think about accounting as a system to be built, not a stack of manual tasks.
Builder and leader. You have built a team and raised the bar. People grow under you.
Owns outcomes. The close lands, the audit is clean, and it happens on time without reminders.
Direct communicator. You flag risk and bad news early and clearly, without hedging.
Controls-minded, not bureaucratic. You build controls into the system rather than layering process on top of it.
Comfortable being challenged. You welcome hard questions on your judgment, and you can defend a position or change it when you are wrong.
