Activities Assistant – Assisted Living
Full‑Time Schedule: Weekdays + every other weekend, 8:30am–4:30pm Pay Rate: $15.00–$16.00 per hour
Freedom Village is seeking a compassionate, energetic Activities Assistant to support the planning and delivery of meaningful programs for Memory Care residents. The ideal candidate is creative, patient, and committed to enhancing residents’ physical, emotional, and spiritual well‑being through structured and engaging activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and coordinating daily activities including reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, sensory stimulation, cultural programs, religious services, special entertainment, outings, and one‑to‑one visits
- Help prepare and distribute the monthly activity calendar and newsletter
- Assist with purchasing activity supplies as needed
- Distribute resident mail daily
- Support and direct resident movement to and from activity areas
- Announce scheduled activities over the intercom at least 15 minutes prior to start time
- Coordinate and supervise volunteer participation, including training and support
- Maintain accurate documentation of resident activity attendance
- Plan and lead activities in the absence of the Activity Coordinator
- Perform other activity‑related or administrative duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of experience in a social or recreational program within a licensed healthcare setting preferred
- Background in music, art, drama, or dance therapy preferred
- Ability to engage residents with dementia in meaningful, supportive activities
- Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow schedules, manage multiple tasks, and work both independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and squatting (approximately 60% of the workday)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to push residents weighing up to 250 lbs in wheelchairs or geri‑chairs
- Ability to read, speak English, hear, and walk intermittently throughout the day
- Exposure to communicable diseases, industrial/household chemicals, odors, and occasional combative behavior
