British Lion Code Eggs Assessor Norfolk (Independent Contractor)
Are you an experienced poultry, egg production, or agricultural professional looking to carry out British Lion Code Eggs assessments on behalf of NSF as a self‑employed independent contractor?
NSF is a global leader in testing, inspection and certification services. Within our Agriculture team, we operate as a certification body for a range of plant and animal assurance schemes, including the British Lion Code of Practice. Our assessors play a key role in auditing farms and verifying compliance with scheme owner standards.
We are looking for a British Lion Code Eggs Assessor to join our team of self-employed contractors in Norfolk.
If you have practical experience in egg production or the poultry sector, and an interest in food safety, traceability, and assurance standards, independent auditing can offer a flexible and rewarding way to use your practical experience and industry knowledge.
Independent Contracting – How it works:
You operate on a self‑employed basis, completing British Lion Code assessments on behalf of NSF
You are paid per audit, with travel expenses covered, where applicable
You share your availability, and visits are scheduled based on your location, experience, and scheme coverage
Work is offered on an ad hoc basis and can vary throughout the year depending on programme needs
Independent contracting offers autonomy, flexibility, and the chance to shape your own workload
Including, but not limited to:
Conducting on-site audits of egg production units, including laying farms and (where applicable) packing centres
Reviewing scheme requirements and completing audits in line with the British Lion Code of Practice
Assessing key areas such as biosecurity, hygiene controls, traceability, flock health, and egg handling processes
Summarising and evaluating audit findings and submitting reports within agreed timeframes
Clearly communicating audit findings with producers and client representatives
Planning audit activity effectively to meet deadlines
Maintaining effective communication with audit delivery and client teams
- Practical experience within poultry, egg production, or the wider agricultural sector (e.g. layer operations, farm management, technical roles)
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, or assurance standards within agriculture or food production
- The ability to engage confidently, respectfully and patiently with producers and site personnel
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage your own time
- Confidence in handling challenging conversations and managing conflict appropriately
- A flexible and professional approach, with respect for individual and company confidentiality
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site locations
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends where required
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office
