## About this opportunity
Principal technical leader for the system architecture and routing-protocol design of Ericsson's IPOS network operating system on the Router 6000 platform.
Own the design of the control-plane and routing subsystems end to end, and shape the platform infrastructure and security foundations that IPOS is built on turning architectural intent into robust, scalable, competitive implementation.
This is a senior individual-contributor role: you set technical direction for a major subsystem, guide developers, and are accountable for the architectural quality of what ships.
## What you will do
Key Responsibilities:
System Architecture & Routing Protocols:
* Own the architecture and design of IPOS routing and control-plane subsystems IS-IS, BGP, OSPF, MPLS/LDP/RSVP-TE, Segment Routing (SR-MPLS, SRv6), EVPN, and multicast
• Define subsystem decomposition, module interfaces, state management, and scaling models (FIB/RIB scale, convergence, high availability, ISSU)
• Translate portfolio and segment requirements into concrete protocol feature designs and roadmaps
• Drive design for correctness, convergence performance, and route scale across the target segments (mobile backhaul, aggregation, metro/edge, converged IP, DC/DCI)
• Shape the platform foundations the routing stack depends on: control-plane infrastructure, inter-process messaging, data-plane/forwarding abstraction, telemetry, and hardware/silicon abstraction
• Contribute to build-vs-reuse decisions across merchant silicon and platform components
• Ensure the architecture supports cloud-native, containerized, and disaggregated deployment models (vCSR, cloud RAN, CNIS)
Security
• Embed security-by-design into the routing and control-plane architecture: control-plane protection, secure protocols (IPsec, MACsec, key management), secure boot / trust chain, and hardening against protocol-level attacks
• Partner with security specialists to meet product security requirements and evolving standards (incl. post-quantum readiness direction)
Quality, Verification & Delivery
• Define architecture-level acceptance criteria and drive them through design reviews, verification strategy, and performance benchmarking
• Own resolution of complex cross-subsystem technical issues and act as a senior escalation point within the routing/infrastructure domain
• Champion engineering excellence design documentation, code quality, and testability
• Mentor senior and principal developers; grow protocol and system-design competence within the Bangalore team
• Represent the routing/infrastructure domain in cross-site architecture forums (Bangalore, Beijing, Sweden)
• Support customer engagements, RFI/RFP responses, bake-offs, and technical win strategies where routing/infra/security depth is decisive
## You will bring
Required Competencies
• Deep, hands-on expertise in IP routing protocols IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing (SR-MPLS/SRv6), EVPN; multicast a strong plus
• Proven track record designing subsystems within a large-scale embedded network OS (IPOS, IOS-XR, SROS, JUNOS, or a disaggregated NOS such as SONiC)
• Strong system-design fundamentals: distributed state, scalability, high availability, convergence, ISSU
• Working knowledge of platform infrastructure forwarding/data-plane abstraction, silicon abstraction, telemetry, control-plane infrastructure
• Solid grounding in network security: control-plane protection, IPsec/MACsec, secure boot, protocol hardening
• Ability to translate product/segment requirements into architecture and lead it through to delivery
• 10+ years in networking software development, with 3+ years in system design / architecture of routing or platform subsystems
• Excellent technical communication and cross-geography collaboration
Nice to Have
• Experience with cloud-native / containerized NOS and disaggregated architectures
• Exposure to AI-native / on-node telemetry-driven operations
• Contributions to relevant...
