What is the Opportunity?
We are looking for a Senior Risk Manager to support our asset manager business growth and expansion into new investment fund strategies alongside the fund manager enhancement of our risk management controls and analytical tools.
The successful candidate will join a team of highly experienced risk and asset management professionals and will assume primary responsibility for quantitative and technological development initiatives. This position reports directly to the Head of Risk and Conducting Officer.
RBC’s expectation is that all employees and contractors will work in the office with some flexibility to work up to 1 day per week remotely, depending on working arrangements.
What will you do?
- Measure and monitor risk exposures (market, liquidity, credit, counterparty, valuation, etc) usage against budget and perform quantitative investigations in occurrences of discrepancies.
- Analyse the fund's risk profile to identify emerging risks stemming from portfolio construction decisions and market events, encompassing both idiosyncratic and systemic risk factors.
- Oversee and review the implementation and analysis of risk models and underlying data.
- Lead the strategic modernization initiative for the local risk calculation and control platform, ensuring alignment with evolving business requirements and technological capabilities.
- Design and develop enhanced numerical risk control frameworks for existing and prospective investment strategies through the creation of analytical tools, automated processes, and systematic controls.
- Prepare comprehensive periodic risk reports, analytical assessments, and presentations for the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and regulatory authorities (CSSF, CBI, ESMA).
- Lead ad-hoc initiatives related to product development, tool and solution implementation, and regulatory changes projects.
- Assess, identify, and communicate the risk implications of new products and business initiatives to relevant stakeholders.
- Conduct and document in-depth analytical assessments evaluating the impact of portfolio construction, fund design features, and evolving market conditions to support decision-making.
- Monitor funds regulatory developments (UCITS, AIFMD, Circulars, Supranational Organisations), conduct regulatory gap analyses, and respond to ad-hoc supervisory inquiries.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders such as senior management, product teams, portfolio risk management, portfolio managers, execution desks, and model risk management functions.
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
- Master's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline, including but not limited to Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related fields.
- Extensive experience in risk management or quantitative analysis within financial services, asset management, fund management, banking, wealth management, risk software development, or management consulting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Python programming and SQL database management.
- Strong quantitative and statistical foundation with knowledge of risk modelling methodologies and risk management frameworks.
- Comprehensive understanding of global financial markets, including multi-asset class products and financial instruments.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving capabilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Demonstrable expertise in the asset management industry, encompassing knowledge of the investment fund manager ecosystem, applicable regulatory frameworks (UCITS and AIFMD), and CSSF supervisory practices, would be regarded as a highly desirable distinct advantage.
- Additional qualifications would be an asset (e.g. CQF, FRM, CFA, CAIA, PRM).
- Proficiency in leveraging on AI tools is beneficial.
