Our 99,600 employees operate a network of 2,600 offices and laboratories, working together to enable a better, safer and more interconnected world.Job DescriptionPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESThis role is responsible for auditing civil construction activities to ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and approved project requirements.The successful candidate will perform site inspections, verify workmanship and materials, enforce safe work practices, and maintain accurate daily reports, including progress tracking, inspections, and documentation.This position requires hands-on field experience in civil inspection, strong knowledge of Electrical Utility Safety Rules (EUSR), internal procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and applicable standards and guidelines (e.g., MTO Book 7, MCR), along with the ability to independently assess and enforce compliance on active construction sites.Review issued civil construction drawings and project documentation prior to construction start to understand scope, risks, and key requirementsParticipate in pre-construction and progress meetingsConduct site visits and perform regular inspections to monitor construction activities and ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable regulationsAssess site conditions, identify hazards, and confirm that contractors are following approved safety procedures and regulatory requirementsAudit contractor practices to ensure alignment with safety standards, utility requirements, and applicable legislationMaintain detailed daily inspection records, including site activities, measurements, marked-up drawings, and photographic evidenceMaintain project information and execution reports, drawings, and ensure that project documents are current and valid.Track construction progress and document any deviations from design due to field conditions, scope changes, or unforeseen issuesVerify installation quality and confirm materials comply with approved bill of materials and project standardsReview and validate contractor submissions, including progress quantities, monthly billing, and change ordersIdentify, document, and report safety and quality non-compliance issues (NCRs) and follow up on corrective actionsSupport incident reporting and participate in investigations when requiredProvide timely project status updates to internal teams and clientsPerform final inspections and walkdowns, prepare deficiency lists, and confirm readiness for serviceReview and validate As-Built drawings and project documentation in accordance with applicable standards and requirementsSupport project close-out activities, including final reporting, documentation review, and lessons learnedParticipate in post-construction and share lessons learnedOTHER RESPONSIBILITIESWillingness to work in outdoor construction environmentsStrong attention to detail and accountabilityCommitment to safety and quality standardsAbility to manage time effectively and meet reporting deadlinesProfessional attitude with client-facing experienceFollow SGS internal proceduresFollow client inspection procedures, where applicableEnsure client preapproved procedures are appliedAccountable for the Health, Safety and Environment of personnel and the enforcement of all regulations as per the SGS Health and Safety Manual, and the immediate reporting of any health, safety or environmental incidents, accidents or concerns to the Manager / Supervisor and H&S department for action.Demonstrates good and safe work habits and enforces a clean working environment QualificationsEDUCATION:Holds a valid Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation or Degree in Civil Engineering;...
