SUMMARY

Partner Engineering and Science, Inc. is seeking a full-time, in-office Accounting Specialist to join our Accounting team at our Torrance headquarters. This position is designed for an individual seeking to build a long-term career in accounting, with opportunities to progress into Staff Accountant and Senior Accountant roles.

The Accounting Specialist will support general ledger accounting, month-end close activities, lease administration, and U.S. federal and state tax compliance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and possesses a solid understanding of accounting fundamentals, including debits, credits, and financial statement relationships.

This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Ledger Accounting & Financial Close (30%)

  • Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with company policies and U.S. GAAP.
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Analyze account activity and investigate discrepancies and unusual fluctuations.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial reporting.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records and accounting documentation.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance accounting efficiency and controls.

Lease Accounting & Administration (30%)

  • Maintain lease accounting schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Track and monitor lease additions, modifications, renewals, and terminations.
  • Record lease accounting transactions and reconciliations in accordance with ASC 842.
  • Coordinate with business departments to gather lease-related information.
  • Assist with preparation of lease-related financial statement disclosures and audit support.

Tax Compliance & Reporting (20%)

  • Assist with preparation of information required for federal, state, and local tax filings.
  • Prepare schedules supporting income tax, franchise tax, sales and use tax, and property tax filings.
  • Maintain tax compliance calendars and filing deadlines.
  • Research tax notices and assist with responses to taxing authorities.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and internal stakeholders to gather required information.

Accounting Operations & Administrative Support (20%)

  • Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Support internal and external audit requests.
  • Assist with special projects and other accounting duties as assigned.
  • Perform administrative tasks necessary to support efficient accounting operations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statement relationships.
  • Knowledge of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and month-end close processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting/ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities, learn new processes quickly, exercise sound judgment, and consistently deliver accurate work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and tax information.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience supporting month-end close and account reconciliations.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred.
  • Exposure to lease accounting (ASC 842), tax compliance, or public accounting is a plus.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION CRITERIA

  • Accuracy and timeliness of journal entries, reconciliations, and assigned accounting tasks.
  • Ability to independently manage assigned accounts and responsibilities.
  • Quality of month-end close support and documentation.
  • Ownership, initiative, and follow-through.
  • Ability to identify, research, and resolve accounting issues.
  • Development of technical accounting, lease accounting, and tax knowledge.
  • Contribution to process improvements and internal controls.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Communications: Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the phone
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time
  • Manual dexterity to operate equipment and perform manual responsibilities
  • Some lifting may be required on occasion. Help will be provided if needed

Compensation:

Salary range is $30 - $35/hr. This is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role.

The pay scale for this role considers a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note, the disclosed pay scale estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic location where the position may be filled.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive bonus program which is dependent on various factors, including, but not limited to individual and organizational performance.
