About Check

Payroll is broken. Come fix it alongside a team that’s as passionate as you are!

At Check, we’re not just building our own business — we’re building payroll businesses together with every one of our partners. As the inventors of embedded payroll, we’re redefining how people get paid and making it easier for payroll businesses to launch, grow, and thrive.

On our team you'll use creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and grit to simplify the complexity of payroll for thousands of employers of every size, across all industries. We ignore conventional role boundaries in favor of the unique strengths and values each builder brings to our mission: make paying people simple.

Check is far more than just API infrastructure. We’re a springboard for building and scaling payroll businesses.

About the role

Check is the leading payroll infrastructure platform. Every new partner goes through the same journey: evaluate, build, launch. Today that journey relies heavily on manual, bespoke support from Sales, Growth, and Partner Engineering. You'll own the technical experience of that journey end to end — and redesign it.

You'll be the senior technical counterpart to our Sales and Growth teams: running technical demos, solutioning live with prospects, guiding partners through their build, and getting them launched. Just as importantly, you'll build the systems — content, tooling, sandboxes, AI skills, workflows and support — that make each successive partner faster to launch than the last.

  • Process redesign: partner with the Head of Sales & Growth, Chief Growth Officer, and their teams, to redefine the scope → build → launch process end to end — what happens at each stage, who's in the room, what the technical next step is — so every launch is consistent

  • Pre-sales technical partnership: own technical demos, live solutioning, and architecture conversations alongside Sales; up-level our pre-sales technical enablement and content

  • Build-phase enablement: own sandbox access, provisioning and tracking, consultative build guides and best practices, FAQs, and everything having to do with building a payroll product on Check. Fundamentally reimagine what it looks like to build a Check integration for partners by using cutting edge AI tools.

  • QuickStart automation: lead the project to automate our QuickStart model — an AI-and-automation-driven speed-to-launch path that removes manual effort from sales and growth, especially for high-volume/lower-touch inbound

  • Launch hand-off: develop the playbook for documentation and transition of technical partner product to partner engineering with full context and posterity

  • AI-assisted build support: develop AI functionality that supports partners through their build (answering integration questions, reviewing implementation patterns, surfacing best practices)

Your impact

Today: technical support through scope → build → launch is ad hoc, without a structured technical sales process, demo playbook, or sandbox provisioning, resulting in limited visibility into what partners have built or where the API gaps are, and leaving downstream impacts for partners.

12 months from now: every deal follows a defined technical sales process with a demo playbook and standardized sandbox provisioning and tracking; QuickStart partners launch through an automated path; Partner Engineering receives a “current state” doc at every handoff; we can see across the portfolio what's built and where the gaps are, refreshed with new product launches & recommendations.

Your growth

In your first year, you'll be a key part of designing what comes next for you at Check. Possible directions:

  1. Enterprise depth: fewer, larger partners, with this role owning technical strategy end-to-end

  2. Scale motion: more startups through the automated QuickStart path, owning the platform that supports them

  3. Management track: building out the technical function as it grows — this might include leading Partner Engineering

Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have most or all of the following:

  • Built or scaled a Solutions/Pre-Sales Engineering function from scratch

  • Deep experience with API integrations, ideally with vertical SaaS/FinTech platforms

  • Comfort solutioning live in front of a technical prospect; polished externally

  • Bias toward systems over heroics: has automated onboarding/launch motions before

  • Highly autonomous; comfortable being the single technical owner across many concurrent builds

  • Experience with (or strong enthusiasm for) applying AI to support and enablement workflows
