Position Summary
Austin Industrial is seeking experienced and safety-focused Cell Service Technicians to support operations at the Olin Chlor Alkali facility in Plaquemine, LA. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, rebuilding, inspection, and servicing of electrolytic cell equipment and associated components used in the chlor-alkali manufacturing process.
The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety excellence, and the ability to work effectively in a heavy industrial chemical manufacturing environment. Cell Service Technicians play a critical role in maintaining production reliability, equipment integrity, and operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, disassembly, inspection, cleaning, rebuilding, and reassembly of electrolytic cells and associated process equipment.
- Remove, repair, replace, and install cell components, membranes, gaskets, piping, valves, fittings, and related equipment.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized maintenance equipment to complete assigned tasks.
- Assist with scheduled outages, turnarounds, preventive maintenance activities, and capital improvement projects.
- Conduct equipment inspections and identify mechanical deficiencies, leaks, corrosion, and operational issues.
- Support troubleshooting efforts to identify equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform rigging and material handling activities in accordance with established procedures.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, line breaking, and other plant safety procedures.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure work areas remain organized and free of hazards.
- Complete required maintenance documentation, work orders, inspections, and safety reports.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, planners, operators, and other maintenance personnel.
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to all Austin Industrial and Olin policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of industrial maintenance, mechanical, chemical plant, refinery, or heavy manufacturing experience preferred.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Working knowledge of industrial maintenance practices and procedures.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety procedures, and technical documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in chlor-alkali, chemical, petrochemical, refinery, or manufacturing facilities.
- Experience servicing electrolytic cells or similar production equipment.
- NCCER certification or other industrial maintenance certifications.
- Experience with rigging and material handling operations.
- Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Forklift, aerial lift, or crane signaling experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and elevated structures.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, hearing protection, chemical-resistant clothing, and fall protection equipment.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and industrial environments with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes.
Work Environment
- Heavy industrial chemical manufacturing facility.
- Exposure to operating equipment, process chemicals, elevated work areas, and outdoor elements.
- May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays, turnarounds, and emergency callouts as business needs dictate.
- Safety-sensitive position requiring strict adherence to company and site-specific safety standards.
