About the team and the role: eBay, Inc. seeks Software Engineer 3 in San Jose, CA 

What you will accomplish: 

Job Duties: Design, develop and implement core software systems or applications.  Develop new products, including cloud-based or internet-related tools. Build robust and scalable software, help improve PayPal, Inc. and code services and system architecture. Participate in brainstorming sessions and supply ideas to PayPal, Inc. & technology, algorithms and products. Collaborate with the product and design teams to understand end-user requirements, formulate use cases, and deliver results. Estimate engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations, and triage production issues. Build new experiences, improve existing products, and develop distributed systems powering E-Commerce websites at a large scale. Convert abstract concepts into viable products using Cs Fundamentals. Aggregate information and data from various places and build relationships with key partners. Partial telecommuting may be permitted from within a commutable distance.

What you will bring:

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.

Special Skill Requirements:

1. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, engineers and external stakeholders to gather business requirements, define technical specifications, translate them into detailed documentation, and deliver impactful solutions aligned with user needs and business objectives. 

2. Engage in technical discussions and brainstorming sessions focused on algorithm design, technology evaluation, and product innovation to drive business growth and solve engineering challenges.

 3. Design and implement modern cloud architectures with load balancing and fault tolerance, leveraging multithreading for concurrency to build scalable and resilient e-commerce systems for high-traffic environments.

4. Deliver end-to-end product features by integrating backend systems with frontend interfaces, translating abstract business concepts into functional, user-centric software products.

5. Design and implement large-scale enterprise software applications using Object-Oriented Design principles in Java, adhering to system design patterns and modular architecture. 

6. Build scalable, maintainable and efficient backend systems using frameworks including Spring and Spring Boot to develop reliable server-side business logic and microservices.

7. Work with both relational and NoSQL databases to manage data storage, access, and retrieval, while applying query optimization and data management strategies.

8. Design and manage RESTful APIs using a contract-first development approach, with a comprehensive understanding of the API lifecycle to ensure seamless integration, authentication, error handling, and version control.

9. Apply networking principles such as client-server models, distributed messaging, and asynchronous communication protocols to design effective and scalable network-driven applications.

10. Develop dynamic and responsive web interfaces using modern frontend technologies and frameworks, including React, Node.js, Marko, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, emphasizing usability and performance.

11. Apply Agile methodologies along with Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, employing test-driven development (TDD), automated testing frameworks, and visual regression testing to enhance software quality, system robustness and accelerate delivery.

12. Implement system monitoring and logging solutions to ensure stability, observability, and performance of software applications in production environments.

13. Utilize data visualization tools and dashboards to transform complex datasets and statistical outputs into actionable insights to enable data-driven decision-making across business functions. 

14. Provide technical leadership within a functional area by mentoring peers, guiding technology adoption, conducting peer reviews, and ensuring compliance with coding standards and best practices, while supporting timely delivery through risk identification and implementation oversight.

Salary: $187,741.00-254,200.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Additional Details

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
