PRINCIPAL CONSTRUCTION DELIVERY SME

The position improves portfolio delivery performance by identifying risk, standardizing construction practices, optimizing sequencing and productivity, applying lessons learned, and supporting project recovery efforts. The role partners closely with Delivery, Construction, Project Controls, Commissioning, Power Delivery, Controls Integration, Operations, contractors, and external colocation providers.

This is an individual contributor leadership role that operates through technical expertise, influence, and advisory authority rather than direct people management or daily project ownership.

Construction Excellence

  • Lead portfolio-level constructability reviews and technical assessments.
  • Develop and promote construction standards, best practices, and delivery methods.
  • Identify construction risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate project sequencing, logistics, productivity, and workflow constraints.
  • Lead field innovation, industrialization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and implement lessons learned across projects.
  • Identify recurring execution issues and recommend corrective actions.

 

Delivery Governance and Risk Management

  • Conduct independent project health and construction risk assessments.
  • Support portfolio delivery reviews, executive escalations, and recovery planning.
  • Evaluate project recovery strategies, schedules, and execution alternatives.
  • Validate reported progress through field observations and project reviews.
  • Support construction-related startup, energization, turnover, and readiness assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex or high-risk delivery issues.

 

Colocation and External Provider Oversight

  • Serve as a senior technical interface with colocation providers and external delivery partners.
  • Review construction execution, quality, design, and readiness of leased facilities.
  • Assess provider performance and identify delivery risks or gaps.
  • Support contract compliance observations from a technical construction perspective.
  • Recommend corrective actions and performance improvements.
  • Engage directly with provider, contractor, and project leadership teams.

 

Commercial and Change Advisory

  • Provide technical support for change order and contractor claim reviews.
  • Validate constructability, cost, and schedule impacts associated with proposed changes.
  • Evaluate recovery options and execution alternatives.
  • Identify budget and schedule risks related to construction decisions.
  • Provide technical input without owning contract execution, commercial negotiations, or budget approval.

 

Technical Leadership and Mentorship

  • Mentor Construction Directors, Construction Manager Leads, and Construction Managers.
  • Transfer technical knowledge and best practices across projects.
  • Develop construction standards, tools, and governance processes.
  • Facilitate cross-project lessons learned and continuous improvement discussions.
  • Promote consistent execution practices across the regional portfolio.
  • Influence stakeholders and project teams without direct management authority.

  • Leadership teams proactively engage the role on complex delivery issues.

 

Work Environment and Travel:

  • Approximately 50%–70% field and site engagement across active campuses.
  • Frequent participation in strategic site walks, constructability reviews, recovery meetings, and executive project assessments.
  • Direct engagement with contractors, colocation providers, project teams, and senior leadership.
  • Support for major construction, energization, startup, and turnover milestones.
  • Regular assessment of field quality, progress, productivity, sequencing, and delivery risk.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
15 years of experience in construction project management

OR

Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field AND 11 years of experience in construction project management

OR

Master's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field AND 9 years of experience in construction project management

OR

Doctorate in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field AND 7 years of experience in construction project management.

Job Skills:
Same as prior level

Preferred Job Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
16 years of experience in construction project management

OR

Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field AND 12 years of experience in construction project management

OR

Master's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field AND 10 years of experience in construction project management

OR

Doctorate in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field AND 8 years of experience in construction project management.

People Leadership / Management Experience:
2 years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.
Budget Experience:
4 years of experience working with operating budgets and/or project financials.
