Primary Purpose
Transports patients around PHHS using wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, and gurneys to ensure patient safety.
Minimum Specifications
Education
- None.
Experience
- Prefer 6 months of experience in healthcare and/or customer service.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience
Certification/Registration/Licensure
Must have current CPR-Heart saver course completion card within 90 days of hire and/or placement from one of the following
- American Heart Association
- American Red Cross Rescuer
- Military Training Network
Required Tests for Placement
Skills or Special Abilities
- Must be able to read and write.
- Must have very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to represent Parkland in a positive manner.
- Must exhibit caring, service-oriented behaviors toward people encountered and be able to defuse emotionally charged situations.
- Must be able to apply sound judgment to satisfy a variety of questions and problems from patients and visitors.
- Must be able to follow both oral and written directions.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, nurses, physicians, and other hospital personnel.
- Must have basic math skills.
- Must complete within 90 days of hire and/or placement a Preventive Back Injury & Proper Lift Technique class and demonstrate proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Safely transports patients via stretcher or wheelchair to PHHS departments/areas to help safeguard them while on campus.
- May include the transport of supplies and belongings during discharges within set standards.
- Assists in the transport of critical care patients in coordination with the appropriate clinical staff, e.g., transporting the patient from the ICU to the radiology department.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with other areas of the hospital, nurses, physicians, and other Parkland staff in order to facilitate effective communication.
- Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction.
- Makes recommendations to the supervisor and implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of Parkland.
- Stays abreast of the latest developments in customer service by attending in-house seminars/workshops and reading internal publications.
- Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Patient Transportation area.
- Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans.
- Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
