What we need

Corpay is currently looking to hire a Money Laundering Reporting Office (MLRO) within our Alpha FX / Alpha Group Division. This position falls under our Cross Border line of business and is located in London. In this role you will be responsible for leading the firm's Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), sanctions and broader financial crime framework. The MLRO acts as the firm's Nominated Officer under the Money Laundering Regulations and Proceeds of Crime Act, ensuring compliance with FCA requirements while supporting the business in managing financial crime risks associated with international payments and FX services.  You will report directly to the Chief Compliance Officer, Cross-Border Payments and will regularly collaborate with the wider Compliance team and various business teams.

Role Responsibilities

Your responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Performing the SMF17 (Money Laundering Reporting Officer/MLRO) function under the Senior Managers & Certification Regime. Act as the firm's Nominated Officer under the Money Laundering Regulations. Maintain compliance with: 
    • FCA Handbook (SYSC, SUP, DEPP) 
    • Money Laundering Regulations 
    • Proceeds of Crime Act 
    • Terrorism Act 
    • UK Sanctions regime 
  • Managing compliance oversight of key Financial Crime Frameworks and ensure that the framework and processes remain aligned with applicable regulatory requirements, industry best practice, and the firm's evolving financial crime risk profile. These include:
    • Customer Due Diligence
    • Transaction Monitoring 
    • Payment Screening
    • Sanctions & Negative News Screening
    • Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) filing
    • Record Keeping
  • Providing regular MLRO reports to the Board and relevant governance committees, including reporting on the firm's financial crime risk profile, SAR activity, emerging risks, regulatory developments, material control issues, and the effectiveness of the financial crime framework.
  • Owning and periodically refreshing the firm's Financial Crime Risk Assessment, ensuring risks are appropriately identified, assessed and mitigated.
  • Oversee and support the firm's AML Monitoring Program, internal and external audits, FCA remediation actions, and regulatory inspections, ensuring that control weaknesses are identified, appropriately remediated, and tracked through to completion.
  • Oversee and assist with the onboarding of new clients through a rigorous KYC verification process. Advise appropriately on high-risk customers, PEPs, complex ownership structures, EDD cases etc. Recommend rejections and exits where financial crime concerns exist.
  • Act as the firm's Nominated Officer for Suspicious Activity Reporting by receiving and assessing internal Suspicious Activity Reports, determining whether disclosures should be made to the National Crime Agency, maintaining accurate SAR records, providing guidance on tipping-off risks and reporting obligations, and liaising with law enforcement and regulatory authorities where appropriate.
  • Assist with designing and delivering an effective financial crime training program, providing annual training and ongoing awareness to the Board, Senior Management, Front Office, Operations and Client Services teams to promote a strong culture of compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of Electronic Money Issuer registration for a company structured to provide advisory, dealing and market making services in derivatives and foreign exchange contracts to retail and wholesale clients.
  • Manage a small team of Compliance Analysts responsible for compliance operational workflows.
  • Leading the firm's financial crime engagement with the FCA, National Crime Agency, Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation, Internal Audit and external auditors, acting as the primary point of contact for financial crime matters. 
  • Provide financial crime advice and approval, as needed, for new products, services, payment corridors, banking partners and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitoring regulatory developments and ensure the firm's financial crime programme remains aligned with evolving FCA expectations, UK legislation and industry best practice.

Qualifications and Skills

The successful candidate will possess 10 plus years of strong regulatory judgement and a risk-based approach to decision-making, with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial crime matters to the CCO, Boards and senior executives. They will have experience leading compliance and financial crime teams, AML technology and transaction monitoring systems, and partnering effectively with the business to support commercial growth while maintaining a robust and proportionate financial crime control framework.

  • Significant experience (typically 7+ years) serving as an MLRO, Deputy MLRO or senior financial crime leader within an FCA-regulated financial institution. 
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with the FCA, NCA, OFSI and external auditors. 
  • Strong knowledge of UK AML, sanctions, payment services and financial crime regulations. 
  • Experience overseeing transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, KYC, EDD and SAR investigations. 
  • Experience leading regulatory inspections and remediation program. 
  • Proven people leadership and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Eligible to perform the SMF17 function, subject to FCA approval.
