Save Report this job Primary PurposeEnable students to pursue their education with minimal interruption in the absence of the regularly assigned class room teacher.QualificationsEducation/CertificationHigh School Diploma or GED, requiredValid Teaching Certificate, preferredDegree or at least 60 college semester hours, preferredTwo references, at least one supervisorSpecial Knowledge/SkillsDemonstrated ability of written and oral communication skillsProfessionalism in the classroom and with interactions of administration /staffCompletion of an Irving ISD Guest Educator OrientationFlexibility/adaptability to changing environmentsMust speak and understand conversational and proper EnglishAbility to communicate effectively (verbal and written)Ability to read and comprehend written materials (lesson plans, student information, textbooks, policy and procedure)ExperienceExperience working with children and students, preferredMajor Responsibilities And DutiesInstructional Strategies Review with the principal or designee all lesson plans and schedules to be followed during the instructional day. Teach the lesson as prepared by the absent teacher. Consult as appropriate with the principal or designee, if no lesson plan is provided by the absent teacher.Classroom Management and Organization Maintain as fully as possible the established routines/schedules and procedures of the school and classroom to which the substitute is assigned. Assume responsibility to oversee student behavior in the classroom and on campus as appropriate. Respect district and employee property. Maintain classroom(s) organization and appearance. Leave a summary of work completed at the end of each instructional day for the teacher of record.
