Quality Assurance Architect (AI & Automation Engineering)

As a Quality Assurance Architect within PNC's C&IB organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA or Dallas, TX.Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced QA Architect to lead the transformation of Quality Engineering through advanced automation, AI-driven testing strategies, and modern engineering practices. This role will define and implement enterprise-scale test architectures, establish automation standards, champion AI-enabled quality solutions, and drive shift-left quality across Agile delivery teams.
The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in software testing and automation frameworks with hands-on experience leveraging Generative AI, Agentic AI, predictive analytics, and CI/CD technologies to improve software quality, delivery velocity, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Engineering Strategy & Architecture
• Define and implement enterprise-wide QA architecture, standards, and best practices.
• Establish scalable automation frameworks supporting UI, API, database, cloud, and event-driven applications.
• Drive Quality Engineering transformation initiatives aligned with Agile and DevOps practices.
• Architect testing solutions that support continuous integration, continuous testing, and continuous delivery.
AI-Driven Quality Engineering
• Lead adoption of AI-powered testing solutions including:
o Automated test case generation
o Intelligent defect prediction and triage
o Self-healing automation frameworks
o Autonomous regression testing
o AI-assisted root cause analysis
• Evaluate and implement GenAI and Agentic AI capabilities within the QE lifecycle.
• Develop strategies leveraging tools such as GitHub Copilot, AI test generation platforms, LLM-based testing solutions, and predictive analytics.
• Partner with engineering teams to identify opportunities where AI can improve productivity, coverage, and quality outcomes.
Test Automation Leadership
• Design and maintain enterprise automation architectures utilizing some of the in house capabilities such as :
o Playwright
o Selenium
o Cypress
o REST Assured
o Appium
o JMeter/Gatling
• Establish reusable automation patterns, libraries, and accelerator frameworks.
• Improve automation coverage, reliability, maintainability, and execution efficiency.
• Lead automation of functional, integration, regression, accessibility, performance, and API testing.
DevOps & CI/CD Integration
• Integrate automated quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
• Partner with development teams to enable shift-left testing practices.
• Implement quality metrics, automated reporting, and release readiness dashboards.
• Design testing strategies for cloud-native and microservices-based architectures.
Engineering Leadership
• Mentor and coach QE Leads, Automation Engineers, and Test Architects.
• Conduct architecture reviews and provide technical guidance across teams.
• Establish Communities of Practice for Automation, Performance Testing, AI, and Quality Engineering.
• Influence senior technology leadership through engineering roadmaps and innovation proposals.
Quality Governance & Metrics
• Define KPIs and maturity models for:
o Automation adoption
o Defect leakage
o Test execution efficiency
o AI utilization
o Release quality
• Drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise risk, audit, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
Experience
• Multiple years of Quality Engineering experience.
• 5+ years designing enterprise automation frameworks.
• 3+ years leading QA architecture or principal automation engineering initiatives.
• Experience implementing AI-enabled testing solutions in large-scale environments.

Job Description
- Responsible for development and support of processes, practices and tools necessary to produce quality products/services and to manage risk.
- Researches and recommends hardware and software purchases for software quality assurance program. Selects and implements formal QA methodologies.
- Architects and implements agile testing practices and tools. Evaluates, recommends and implements enterprise-wide defect-tracking software.
- Assists in planning and estimation of Quality Assurance support for new programs and projects. Conducts audits and reviews.
- Supports Quality Assurance specialists on programs or projects. Conducts program reviews and complex process audits.
