About Us

Zepto is building the beating heart of Australia’s real-time, account-to-account payments revolution.

We’re a rapidly-scaling business reimagining how money moves for some of Australia’s largest merchants, organisations and payment platforms – disrupting a market that’s been overdue for change for decades. This ambition has seen us recognised as FinTech Organisation of the Year at the Finnies Awards. Twice.

For passionate, action-oriented people, this ambition means genuine opportunity: to build category-defining infrastructure, own hard problems, and grow a career at the pace of the business around you. This isn’t incremental work – it’s the kind of experience that changes the trajectory of a career.

We believe in the power of positive human experiences, and that a deep sense of belonging creates cohesion in our culture. Even as a remote-first team, you’ll be a contributor and custodian of that culture, solving complex problems alongside talented people who are just as driven to help us deliver on our brand promise and build ‘a better way to pay’ at Zepto.

About the Role

Zepto’s engineering teams are growing! And we’re currently looking to hire a back-end and a front-end focused Software Engineer. Reporting into an Engineering Manager, these two roles will make a significant impact as we continue scaling a world-class payments platform.

Working in a scale-up means you get the opportunity to flex your skills in a variety of ways. We’re agile and always willing to roll up our sleeves to get things done. As a Software Engineer at Zepto, you can expect your day-to-day to involve:

  • Creating a world-leading payments platform, beloved by engineers, our merchants and their customers
  • Constantly improving and shipping new software
  • Collaborating and supporting your peers to create a team environment and alignment to our purpose
  • Being passionate about processes for writing, reviewing and thinking about scalable, secure, accessible and optimised code
  • Collaborating with dedicated Security, Platform and Incident Management teams to support a platform that is mission-critical to our customers, in a heavily regulated industry
  • Providing technical insight to the customer support and onboarding teams
  • Participating in our on-call rotation supporting mission-critical systems
  • Embracing the way we work with AI: play a hands-on role in integrating AI into how we work – embracing the setup, documentation, and cross-team alignment of AI tools so our processes are scalable, structured, efficient and built to last beyond any one person.

About You

You will have proven experience contributing to solving technical problems and flexing your solutions-focused mindset, to enable teams to do their best work. You have confidence in shipping code changes, and experience working alongside other engineers to find robust, scalable and maintainable solutions.

You’re energised and enthusiastic. You’re comfortable working in a busy, high-volume, competitive commercial environment, and your collaboration skills make you a valued member of the team and fundamentally a ‘Good Human’.

You are an advocate for driving AI maturity and adoption; embedding AI tools into the rhythm of daily work across the team, ensuring processes are structured, documented, and consistently followed – reducing key person dependency and building a foundation that scales.

We welcome candidates with the following experience for the Back-end Software Engineer role:

  • Solid experience in a back-end language and API development. Ruby is our core stack and therefore preferred, though not essential. Strong fundamentals and a willingness to learn matter more to us.
  • Some experience with front-end development is a bonus.
  • Experience in building solutions using cloud-based technologies.
  • Experience applying strong engineering practices such as test-driven development and continuous delivery, ideally within event-driven systems, microservice architectures and data streaming platforms.
  • Able to be effective in a collaborative team environment.
  • Someone who looks at challenging situations through a solutions-focused lens.
  • Ability to work productively in a fast-paced and agile environment.

We welcome candidates with the following experience for the Front-end Software Engineer role:

  • Solid experience in a modern front-end language and framework. React and TypeScript are part of our stack and preferred, though not essential; strong fundamentals and a willingness to learn matter more to us.
  • Familiarity with back-end-for-front-end patterns, and comfortable reasoning about where logic and state should live across that boundary.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails and/or Golang is a bonus, with plenty of scope to grow in that direction if you want to go more full-stack.
  • Experience building responsive, accessible and performant user interfaces, ideally with an eye for UX and an ability to translate design into polished, production-ready product.
  • Experience integrating front-end applications with RESTful or event-driven APIs, and working with cloud-based technologies.
  • Experience applying strong engineering practices such as test-driven development and continuous delivery, ideally within component-driven architectures and design systems at scale.
  • Able to be effective in a collaborative team environment.
  • Comfortable presenting options and trade-offs rather than waiting for a fully specified solution, and happy taking ownership of your code from design through to production.
