Job Description
BAE Systems San Diego Maritime Solutions is seeking a Journeyman level Mechanic to manage the safe operation and maintenance of all landside equipment located within the shipyard and our warehouse location. Position involves performing skilled maintenance, repair, and installation on a facility's mechanical and electrical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and low-voltage electrical. Key duties include troubleshooting, conducting preventative maintenance, and completing repairs on various equipment, often requiring physical strength, specialized tool use, and the ability to interpret technical documents. Candidates must be able to work unsupervised on a daily basis, troubleshoot a variety of fabrication and production equipment, repair, maintain and inspect production equipment and keep them in a safe, operational, and efficient condition to support the daily shipyard production needs. Will frequently work at heights greater than 50 ft. Strong organizational skills are required along with a dedication to safety and respect in the workplace.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Other job duties include:
- Works independently, but under the direction of the Facilities Manager.
- Starts, regulates, repairs, and shuts down equipment as necessary or required per LOTO procedures / regulations.
- Maintains daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities for every piece of equipment.
- Frequent overwater and work boat projects may be required.
- Observe, interpret, and record readings on gauges, meters and charts to ensure that equipment is operating properly.
- Directs and assists as required in planned plant outages.
- Responding and assisting to “after hours” / “weekend events”.
- Ability to work overtime if necessary.
- Vehicle / equipment diagnostics.
- Ability to work swing shifts or weekend shifts as the need support requires it.
- Assists Facilities Department in Naval ships mooring and berthing requirements, to include dry-docking evolutions on the Pride of San Diego (POSD) and Pride of California (POCA) dry-docks.
- Operate forklifts and aerial lifts.
- Possess and maintain all appropriate BAE safety and environmental certifications.
- Knowledge of safe rigging practices.
- Attain and maintain all safety certifications as required by the department needs.
- Excellent communication skills with fellow BAE employees, contractors, and vendors.
- Interpret equipment blueprints, schematic drawings, and machinery maintenance tasks.
- Possess computer skills in Microsoft Office.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $61360 - $93662
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
